Tohoku University President Hideo Ohno meets with the Swedish Ambassador to Japan
On October 3, 2022, Tohoku University President Hideo Ohno (term of office: 2018-2024) met with the Swedish Ambassador to Japan, Pereric Högberg, during the STS Forum in Kyoto.
President Ohno started by expressing his gratitude for the long-term collaborations and cooperation between Tohoku University and universities in Sweden.
President Ohno then spoke about the next-generation synchrotron radiation facility, NanoTerasu, scheduled to start operations on the Aobayama Campus in 2023, noting that it is expected to contribute to the advancement of science and technology in many ways. He also mentioned that on October 25, Tohoku University would host the ‘Fourth International Summit on Synchrotron Radiation (SR) Innovation’, and that the heads of twenty of the world’s leading synchrotron radiation facilities were expected to attend.
President Ohno also noted that the G7 Science and Technology Ministers’ Meeting would be held in Sendai in the spring of 2023, and that he hoped that collaborations between Tohoku University and Swedish universities would be strengthened through the use of next-generation synchrotron radiation facilities.
Ambassador Högberg expressed his gratitude for Tohoku University’s active approach to academic exchanges with Sweden, including its activities within the framework of the MIRAI consortium of Japanese and Swedish universities, and said that he hoped that the cooperative relationship would continue to develop.
It is hoped that this meeting between President and Ambassador Högberg will further promote collaborations between Tohoku University and universities in Sweden.
